Promise

Secure, lightweight and tailored-fit earphones for great performance during energetic exercise.

Performance

There are four main features to these earphones, all aimed at delivering their promise.

The first is of course the semi-flexible ear hooks from which their name derives. These rubbery silicon moulds hang securely over your ear to keep the canal cushions snug for optimum audio quality during activity.

The silicon in-ear cushions come with three unique sizes to tailor the best fit to you, providing a sealed audio experience from the 12mm drivers. For audio geeks in the know, that’s a frequency response of 18Hz @ 20KHz, a sensitivity of 120dB and an impedance of 16 ohms. The cushions accentuate all this tech by creating a superb noise isolation level of -26dB. The high and low frequency range is also kept crystal clear with the help of the 3.5mm gold-plated stereo jack.

The third handy feature is the built-in mic/volume/pause control. It promises to work with all ipod’s using a genuine Apple remote chip – but alas, my old-school iPhone would only recognise the pause/play option, leaving me stuck with just one volume level as set on the phone.

Lastly, the flex comes with an extension cable in its desire to give you a longer, down-the-back option, keeping your wires out of the way while training. Unless you use for a breast-pocket-clipped iPod shuffle or an iPod armband you may need it: the single cable won’t reach your shorts pocket if you’re tall.

Verdict

The ear clips are supremely comfortable and feel virtually weightless – that is, until you add the extension cable. This adds unfortunate weight to your setup due to the jack connection. If left down your front while running it will pendulum and bounce, tugging on your ears all the way, although if used down your back as suggested it goes fairly unnoticed. Of course they are not just for running, so the cable options provide good choices for ski jackets to gym fanatics. The audio quality considering the affordable price is exceptional and the silicone cushions remain comfortable for hours.
