National Geographic Traveler and REVO sunglasses have honoured photographer and adventurer Jimmy Chin at an event in Washington D.C. Chin is a National Geographic Emerging Explorer and world renowned freelance photographer
Chin, whose photography has appeared in Men’s Journal, Outside and National Geographic, is an experienced rock climber, mountaineer, skier, and wilderness photographer. He has trekked over 25 global expeditions in places like India, Nepal, Tanzania, South Africa, Argentina and Pakistan
He made an initial mark in the industry over ten years ago after photographing El Capitan in California’s Yosemite National Park.
“In the end, I hope that my images from my experiences and expeditions will not only inspire people, but also help me reach a greater goal,” he has said. “Through exploration, photography, and immersing myself in cultures far from home, I hope to expand the awareness of our beautiful planet.”
The presentation itself was held in the Grosvner Auditorium. Long time National Geographic photographers Annie Griffiths and Brian Green were also in attendance. Chin displayed a number of his photographs from his experiences on Mount Everest, as well as the Shark’s Fin of Mount Meru in India.
Chin also showcased his ability to encompass behind-the-scenes shots of the daily obstacles an alpine climber faces. Many of the shots were of climbers dangerously dangling from thousands of feet above ground level, ice or sleet falling down onto them from above as they hiked the mountain, or huddling together in a tent that was resting at a vertical angle to protect themselves from an intense storm.
Chin is an Ambassador for REVO’s new collection of polarised sunglasses.
