Ever chased a tornado in the U.S., taken the highest bungee jump in South Africa, or dived with Great Whites in Australia? If so, you know what it feels like to experience some of the world's most frightening holidays.

According to British Airways' in-flight magazine, Highlife, there are 12 destinations where you can go if your idea of fun is scaring yourself silly.

The latest issue of the publication also suggests kayaking down the whitewater rapids of the Isere River in Bourg St Maurice in the French Alps - which Highlife says is one of the most challenging stretches of water on the World Cup Circuit; spending the night in Karosta Prison, a former Russian military correction centre in Liepaja, Latvia; abseiling down ice cliffs in Antarctica; or using a snowboard to slide down hot ash into a live volcano in Nicaragua.

There's even an entry for the UK: driving a dragster at 200mph at the Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire. "Awe-inspiring stuff," it says. And to make sure you don't back out at the last minute, "there are two packed grandstands of spectators watching."

For those with nerves of steel, here's the list:

10: Storm chasing in Colorado

9: The Big Five safari in Watamu, Kenya

8: Drive a 200mph dragster at Santa Pod, Northants

7: 'Ash' board down the slopes of a live volcano, Cerro Negro, Nicaragua

6: Cage dive with Great Whites, Neptune Island, South Australia

5: 220m bungee jump, Bloukrans Bridge, South Africa

4: Climb the Via Ferrata, Dolomite mountains, Italy

3: Kayak whitewater rapids, Bourg St Maurice, France

2: Sleep in an old military prison, Liepaja, Latvia

1: Abseil down ice cliffs, Wolthat mountains, Antarctica
