A group of friends are cycling 170 miles to raise money for charity in memory of their friend who was killed in a Himalayan avalanche.

Do it 4 Duncs is the umbrella group established in 2007 to raise money in memory of Duncan Williams, a British man killed while climbing Ama Dablam in the Everest Valley in 2006.

The group is riding from Hamble in Hampshire to Salcombe in Devon to raise money for the Island Cruising Club Youth Trust, a charity that provides sailing opportunities for disadvantaged young people. Williams had worked as a sailing instructor at the club.

Following Williams's tragic death, a group of his friends and family committed to a challenge each year in his name, "to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and to achieve something we perhaps never thought we would or could." In 2007, 10 friends completed the Dublin marathon, and a year later they played touch rugby non-stop for 24 hours.

The cycle ride takes place this Thursday, June 11th.
