Welcome to WideWorld. It's been about a year in the planning and we finally got there. Eddie and Alex were sitting by the Colorado River in Texas one hot evening last summer, while Alex's dog, Scruff, dug a four foot hole nearby. The hole almost caused a terrible accident involving Eddie and his right foot, but we digress. We were discussing how there were plenty of magazines back in the UK devoted to individual sports and activities like hiking, sailing, skiing and mountain biking, but that there was nothing that ran the gamut and that appealed to people like us who just loved getting outside. Miles and Bob - two friends back in England - agreed, and here we are. Almost twelve months later.

So take a look around. We think you'll find lots of stuff you like. We're going to bring you regular news stories and reviews of gear, clothing and products.

Our features section is full of tales of adventure (and occasionally madness), plus each month we'll bring you a round-up of the best places in the UK and abroad to do everything from climbing to sea kayaking. To launch WideWorld we thought it'd be nice to send you off the map for a while - to places like Caerfai Bay in Pembrokeshire or Three Cliffs Bay on the Gower Peninsula, where your iPhone won't bother you. There are 25 suggestions, so take your pick.

We've also got some readers from elsewhere in the world too - so although some of the content may be geared towards the UK, and the directory (more on that in a minute) is for businesses in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the news and features will appeal to everyone.

The WideWorld Directory has over 1,200 companies listed throughout the UK where you can book everything from skiing lessons and rafting excursions to horse riding and fishing trips. Like the rest of the site, it's free to use, too. You just need to sign in with your username and password. If you find something not listed, please let us know and we'll be glad to add it - we want this resource to grow and grow. We already believe it's the biggest outdoor directory in the UK.

In our video section, you'll see short films of various extreme sports and adventurers in action. We'll be adding to this regularly and even hosting our own films in the months to come.

As for the future, well, we've got tonnes more in store. Just visit us lots and we don't think you'll be disappointed.

If you want to drop us a line, please email [email protected]. We'd love to hear from you.
