Dog lovers are set to push their pooches out to hit the waves to raise money for orphaned pets.
The 5th annual "Surf Dog Surf-a-Thon" will see owners and their beloved pups take part in a pet show with a difference.
The pooches will be judged on their ability to ride the waves, have fun and stay on their boards.
Winners in each class will move on to grand finals to become top dog. The Californian canine contest will be held on September 12th on North Beach in Del Mar and will raise money for orphaned pets while promoting responsible pet ownership.
Surfers can also decide whether they want to surf on their own or in a team for the "Doo the Dah for Dogs" human surfing costume contest, or if they want to surf with their dog in the Surf Dog heat.
For pets not taking part in the surfing there will be a ‘Beach Bum and Bikini Babe Canine Costume Contest’ where dogs will strut their stuff on the catwalk as celebrity judges pick the best costumes.
Proceeds will go to the Helen Woodward Animal Centre. The charity expect this year's event to be huge, with 120 surfing dogs and 150 human surfers.
