Versatile top for the outdoors with Polartec fabric and some neat design twists

Performance

The Smoulder is a bit of a chameleon. It can be used as a base layer next to the skin, a mid layer to bulk up your insulation, or even an outer layer for dry but nippy days. It’s the attention to detail that makes this top such a winner: the taped cuffs grip your wrists and arms when you’re wearing the sleeves down or rolled up; there are thumbholes in the cuffs that turn the sleeves into what amount to fingerless mittens; the hood hugs your head nice and tightly but doesn’t cover the mouth and cause condensation. It’s an ideal hood for helmet use, and great for bikers or snowboarders.

Verdict

Toasty-warm, well ventilated and surprisingly comfortable: we didn’t want to take this off. In fact, we’re still wearing it.
