The Firefly is a unique lid design that contains an LED light which turns your water bottle into a lantern. The design prevents water from getting into the light and allows the bottle to be used right side up, upside down, or hanging from the nearest handy branch. It's environmentally friendly too - Guyot Designs produces products that are not only carbon neutral but carbon negative.

Performance

I tested the Firefly on a dark night; filled the bottle with water and screwed the cap in place. It takes three AAA batteries and although the beam isn't that powerful, it's light enough for the inside of a tent or to read by. The nice thing about this is that: 1. it combines a lantern with your bottle so you don't need to lug both around, and 2. if you have a bottle made of transparent coloured plastic (mine is red) it gives off a colourful glow. If you remove the lid, the light is much brighter and can be used as a torch as well.

Verdict

This is an ingenious little product. Perfect for camping, particularly if you've pitched a fair way from the car or hiked some distance first and don't want to bring along too much stuff.
