Promise

An LED torch with built-in FM radio that can be 'hand cranked' to spin charge or charged up using an in-car cigarette lighter socket. Apparently this little beaut is great for 'hunting, camping, fishing and emergencies'.

Performance

As far as the torch goes, there are two settings: 3 LEDs and 5 LEDs. Both are fairly bright if it's dark out. Charge it for a minute, and on the 3-LED-setting it runs for 30 minutes, charge for three minutes and it runs for an hour, and charge for five minutes and it'll run for 80 minutes. Not bad, as long as you're right arm is used to all that energetic cranking.

The torch has a swivel head so you can hold it by the handle and use it as a flashlight, or stand it on its end, point the head straight ahead, and it's a nice multi-directional lamp. Plus you can tune in to Classic FM and lull yourself to sleep.

Verdict

This is a nifty bit of kit. It may not be as tough as a Maglite, but what it lacks in durability, it makes up for in other ways: its designers really seem to have thought of everything. Plus it's very competitively priced. Ships from the USA.
