Gerber Splice Keyring Tool

Promise

A truly take-anywhere tool, the Gerber Splice is a tiny size but still rams loads of useful features into its sturdy little frame. But is it too small for the big jobs, we wonder?

Performance

Made from stainless steel, the Splice packs scissors, straight blade, serrated blade, standard screwdriver, Phillips screwdriver, eyeglass screwdriver and a bottle opener into its neat folding body. Considering it's nearly half the size of a box of matches, that's a lot of equipment. Using the folding mechanism that Gerber are well known for, the blade certainly lived up their brand's reputation, slicing through boxes, plastic tags, paracord and twigs with ease. The scissors were no less trusty, though we had problems sawing with the serrated blade: two inches just isn't long enough to build up momentum. The spectacle screwdriver is a great touch, but for tough screws we weren't convinced that the larger screwdrivers could have the right torque.

Verdict

This is a truly pocket-sized knife - in fact, you could lose it in your pocket. It makes a brilliant supplement to a larger multi-tool with the benefit of being easily accessible and light enough to bring anywhere with you.
