Lizzy Hawker’s Mont Blanc North Face Ultra Trail win makes five in a row

Ultra runner Lizzy Hawker is the winner of the North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, marking the fifth time the British runner has beaten the women's category to place first

Lizzy Hawker, British ultra runner, has come first in the women’s category at the North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc – an amazing fifth win for this incredible athlete. The Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc puts runners through a gruelling 103 km course at high altitude, and this year bad weather forced organisers to alter the trail to cope with the driving rain and wind. Mud and slippery rock were constant dangers on the field for the 2,4823 participants. Against the odds, Lizzy Hawker placed 16th overall among men and women with a total time of 2h:32h:13s. Hawker commented on her win:

“Sometimes the best race is not when you win but when you overcome the inner competition. This year shows you have to look inside of yourself and stay in the moment. You can’t control the weather. I’d like to thank all the supporters and volunteers for all their encouragement,”

The next North Face Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc will be held between August 26- September 1, 2013. Find out how to enter at thenorthfacejournal.com
