Promise

Compact one man tent for anyone wanting to travel light

Performance

We reviewed this tent, alongside the Vango Helium Carbon 100 Force Ten Tent on a recent three day cycling trip around the Isle of Wight. Our aim was to travel as light as possible so we needed small and compact one man tents that didn’t take up too much room the bike. The Force Ten Helium 100 SS11 shares the same design as the super lightweight carbon version but with compromises on materials. The heavier components adds an extra 400g to this tent coming in at 1.2kg. There is also a increased pack size of 40 x ø11cm compared to the 36 x ø9cm of it’s lighter brother.

As with the carbon version the assembly is very simple. Once you have the Force Ten flexlite poles inserted, the dyneema guyropes on and the pegs in, it’s simply a case of applying the required tension.

The construction consists of a 40D breathable inner tent which is simply attached to the outer shell using Vango’s ripstop system. Inside there was enough room to move comfortably without feeling cramped. The tent incorporates a small porch area where the odd bit of kit can be stored outside the main inner compartment.

Verdict

The Force 10 Helium 100 is a superb one man tent if you are on a budget. It’s quick to put up a the end of a hard day on the bike and the Vango build quality ensures it will last.
